The ability to forget is a greater asset than memory to our conscious experience.

If we did not forget, we would have neither the reality of experience or the illusion of dreams. If we did not have forgetting, our consciousness would be overwhelmed with no experience to store as memory.

Consciousness is like a giant grate which alternately uses memory and forgetting to shred reality and strew illusion over our experience.
